A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF HONORIFIC IN CHINESE AND UZBEK
Аннотация
Abstract. This paper conducts a systematic comparative analysis of honorific systems in Chinese and Uzbek, integrating theories from pragmatics, linguistics, and sociolinguistics. It examines similarities and differences in how the two languages express pragmatic functions such as respect and modesty across three linguistic levels: lexical, syntactic, and grammatical. Culturally, Chinese honorifics are deeply rooted in Confucian “礼” (ritual propriety) culture, emphasizing hierarchical order and interpersonal harmony. Uzbek honorifics integrate the Islamic concept of “hurmat” (respect) with traditional Central Asian ethical values. This study offers significant insights for advancing Sino-Uzbek contrastive linguistics and enhancing cross-cultural communication.
