CLUES TO CULTURAL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN XINJIANG AND CENTRAL ASIA BEFORE THE LATE BRONZE AGE
Abstract
The term Central Asia in this paper is used in a narrow sense, referring to the territories of present-day Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and northern Afghanistan. The prehistoric cultural connections between Xinjiang and Central Asia have long been a focus of attention for both Chinese and Central Asian scholarship. However, concrete evidence of contacts between the two regions before the Late Bronze Age has been very limited. In recent years, with the advancement of archaeological work, several new clues have emerged that allow us to explore the cultural interactions between Xinjiang and Central Asia prior to the Late Bronze Age.
